The increasing use by the wildfire community of U.S. Geological Survey mapping products for wildfire suppression and Burned Area Emergency Response (BAER) activities have highlighted the need for USGS to develop the capability to capture specific data content and existing conditions. This data is presented using exiting 1:24,000 scale topographic maps as the foundation. The Digital Raster Graphics (DRGs) are the exact digital representation of content from the publish map graphic but are often out of date or do not reflect critical information. The USGS has developed methodology that can rapidly update the DRG from available imagery over small areas in a few hours creating non-standard base images. The USGS can disseminate the more current data to emergency and environmental managers using internet technology or overnight mail. Topics addressed in this presentation will include: Data Acquisition, Image Sources and Rectification, DRG Revision (addition spin-off products), Dissemination.
